၂၀၁၁ ခုႏွစ္၊ ေအာက္တိုဘာလ (၂၆) ရက္ေန႔ညတြင္ ျပဳလုပ္ေသာ ဝါရွင္တန္ အေျခစိုက္ “Freedom House” အဖြဲ႔ႀကီး၏ ႏွစ္(၇၀) ေျမာက္ ႏွစ္ပတ္လည္ ညစာစားပြဲ၌ ဝါရွင္တန္ပို႔စ္ သတင္းစာ အယ္ဒီတာ ဘုတ္အဖြဲ႔အား ခ်ီးျမင့္ေသာ “Awareness Raising Award” ကို လက္ခံရယူစဥ္ အယ္ဒီတာ ဖရက္ ဟိုက္ရက္(Fred Hyatt) ေျပာၾကားေသာ မိန္႔ခြန္း၏ အဆံုးသတ္ ေကာက္ႏႈတ္ခ်က္ကို ေဖၚျပ လုိက္ပါတယ္။

ေနာက္ဆုံးပိတ္ေျပာခ်င္တာကေတာ့ သူတုိ႔အတြက္ အႀကီးအက်ယ္ အႏၱရာယ္ရွိႏုိင္ေပမဲ့လည္း က်ေနာ္တုိ႔ အတြက္ ႏွစ္ေပါင္းမ်ားစြာၾကာ သူတုိ႔ရဲ႕သေဘာထား အျမင္ေတြကုိ ေရးသား ေပးပုိ႔ၾကတဲ့ အစုိးရနဲ႔ သေဘာထား အျမင္ ဆန္႔က်င္သူေတြနဲ႔ လြတ္လပ္ေရး အတြက္ တုိက္ပဲြ၀င္သူေတြ အားလုံးကုိ ေက်းဇူး တင္ပါရေစ။

ဥပမာ၊ လြန္ခဲ့တဲ့ ၄ ႏွစ္ ေလာက္တုန္းက မၿပီးဆုံးေသးတဲ့ ဗမာျပည္က ေရႊ၀ါေရာင္ ေတာ္လွန္ေရးကုိ ဦးေဆာင္ခဲ့တဲ့ ဘုန္းႀကီး တပါးျဖစ္တဲ့ ဦးဂမၻီရ ေရးသား ေပးပုိ႔ခဲ့တဲ့ သူ႔ရဲ႕အျမင္ေတြကုိ က်ေနာ္တုိ႔ ထုတ္ေ၀ ခဲ့ပါတယ္။ “က်ေနာ္တုိ႔ အေနနဲ႔ အၾကမ္းမဖက္တဲ့ နည္းကုိ စြဲကုိင္ ထားပါတယ္။ ဒါေပမဲ့ တခ်ိန္တည္းမွာ က်ေနာ္တုိ႔ရဲ႕ ေက်ာရုိး ေတြကုိလည္း သံမဏိနဲ႔ ဖဲြ႔တည္ထားပါတယ္။” လုိ႔ သူေရးခဲ့ပါ တယ္။ “ေနာက္ျပန္ မလွည့့္ဘူး၊ ငါ့အသက္၊ ငါ့ရဲေဘာ္ေတြရဲ႕အသက္ကုိ ဒီခရီးလမ္းမွာ စေတးရမယ္ ဆုိရင္လည္း ကိစၥ မရွိပါဘူး။ တျခားသူေတြ က်ေနာ္တုိ႔ လမ္းကုိ ဆက္ေလွ်ာက္ပါမယ္။ ေနာက္ထပ္လည္း ပူးေပါင္းပါ၀င္ၿပီး ဒီလမ္းကုိ လုိက္ပါ လာၾကမွာျဖစ္တယ္” ။

အရွင္ဂမၻီရ

တုိက္တုိက္ဆုိင္ဆုိင္ သတင္းစာထဲမွာ သူ႔အျမင္ ေရးသားခ်က္ေတြ ပါလာတဲ့ ေန႔မွာပဲ ဗမာျပည္ တြင္းမွာ ပုန္ေအာင္း ေနထုိင္ေနတဲ့ ဦးဂမၻီရဟာ အဖမ္း ခံလုိက္ရတယ္။ ဒီေနာက္ပုိင္းမွာေတာ့ ဒီအစီအစဥ္မွာ က်ေနာ္တုိ႔ ဘာမွ ၾကားရေတာ့မွာ မဟုတ္ဘူးဆုိတာ သံသယျဖစ္စရာ မလုိေတာ့ပါဘူး။

ဗမာျပည္မွာျဖစ္ေနတဲ့အရာေတြဟာ အေကာင္းဖက္ကုိ ေရာက္ဖုိ႔အတြက္ ပုိၿပီး ႏုိးႂကြ လာေနတယ္။ ဒါေပမဲ့ ဦးဂမၻီရက ေထာင္ထဲမွာပဲ ရွိေနတုန္းပဲ။ ဒီအပတ္ထဲမွာပဲ သူ႔က်န္းမာေရးဟာ အေတာ္ဆုိး ၀ါးေနတယ္လုိ႔ က်ေနာ္တုိ႔ သိရတယ္။ က်ေနာ့္အေနနဲ႔ ဒီဆုကုိ သူ႔အတြက္ သတ္မွတ္ ရည္စူးထား ခ်င္ပါတယ္။ ေနာက္ၿပီး ၀ါရွင္တန္ပုိ႔စ္ သတင္းစာထဲမွာ သူ႔အျမင္ေတြ ပုံႏွိပ္ ထုတ္ေ၀ႏုိင္တဲ့ေန႔ကုိ ေမွ်ာ္လင့္ ေစာင့္စား ေနမိပါတယ္။

မိန္႔ခြန္းေကာက္ႏႈတ္ခ်က္ မူရင္း

Finally, and most of all, I would like to thank the many dissidents and freedom fighters who have written op-eds for us over the years, often at great risk to themselves. Four years ago, for example, we published an oped by U Gambira, a monk who had helped lead the unfinished Saffron Revolution in Burma. “We adhere to nonviolence, but our spine is made of steel,” he wrote. “There is no turning back. It matters little if my life or the lives of colleagues should be sacrificed on this journey. Others will fill our sandals, and more will join and follow.”

By coincidence, on the day his op-ed appeared, U Gambira, who had been living in hiding inside his country, was found and arrested. Things in Burma, as we will no doubt hear more of later in this program, may be stirring for the better. But U Gambira remains in jail, and just this week we saw reports that his health may be in jeopardy. I would like to dedicate this award to him, and to the day when we can print his next op-ed in the Washington Post.
